Emotions & Health Relationships – 6 week class

January 7, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am

Emotions & Healthy Relationships Our goal in this 6-8 week class is to give a general foundation on the importance of establishing self-awareness to help understand why we do and say what we do. We will start by understanding what emotional health looks like and work on expanding our emotional literacy besides, happy, sad and angry. We will learn how to acknowledge and identify what we feel, practice self soothing skills and learn how to communicate and manage our emotions in a healthy way. We will define  what qualifies as a boundary , the various types and the important role they play in healthy relationships.  Many people struggle with negative thoughts that swirl in our head and become the story we tell ourselves. (Daniel Amen called them ANTs, Automatic Negative Thoughts) These thoughts will be examined and you will be given a strategy for how to challenge the thoughts before they impact behaviors in a negative way. Participants will also take a personality profile and explore the different motives, needs, wants and behaviors of four personality styles.  Family of origins will be discussed, what may run in our family, what neuroscience says about re-wiring our brain and the hope this brings. Lastly, we will talk about heathy habits for communicating in a relationship including Gottman’s 4 Horseman, criticism, defensiveness, stone-walling and contempt and how quickly they can destroy relationships.  We may also cover establishing rituals of connections and having healthy conflict.   This is a 2 hour class.
